An
Nua-Choláiste Samhraidh in Glanmire is a residential college
and caters for the 10-14 age group. Courses are suitable
for students in the senior classes in Primary School and junior classes
in Post Primary School. Special emphasis will be placed on developing oral and the communication
skills necessary for the Junior Certificate Examination.

i rith na bliana) idir shuanlíosanna compordacha, rangsheomraí
dea-chóirithe, halla spóirt, linn snámha téite le seomraí feistis, crua-chúirteanna
cispheile/leadóige agus páirc imeartha.
Education
The
courses of instruction and the classes are arranged so as to benefit
each student, irrespective of age or standard. Nua-Choláiste
Samhraidh has been conducting summer Irish courses for sixty years and
only experienced and highly qualified teachers are employed. Specialised
teachers are engaged for the teaching of Drama and for Art and Craft
classes. Cinnirí will supervise the students and take charge of games etc. Special attention is given to fluency in oral Irish. Classes
are held each morning. Games, leagues, competitions, swimming, orienteering,
drama, art and craft etc. are organised in the afternoons. A Céilí
is held each night. Mass is celebrated each Sunday and arrangements
are made for other denominations as required.
Facilities
Girls
are accommodated in Glanmire House. Boys are accommodated in the dormitory
section of Scoil na nÓg. Classes are held in modern well equipped
classrooms in Coláiste an Phiarsaigh.
Recreation
Facilities
include heated indoor Swimming Pool with dressing rooms; large Gym Hall;
Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball Courts; Playing pitch for games; Football, Hurling,
Camogie and Athletics; Table-tennis and Badminton facilities.
Students
should bring their own table tennis bats and balls, badminton racquets
and shuttlecocks, tennis racquets and balls and camáin.
Various trips are
organised for the students during the courses.
Individual
clothing requirements are left to the discretion of parents. However
the following items are essential:
Bedlinen:
1 Duvet (single)
2 Duvet covers
2 fitted sheets
Pillow and 2 Pillow covers
(Sleeping Bags are not acceptable)
Clothing:
We strongly recommend:
Tracksuits, shorts and t-shirts, sports shoes, football outfit, swimming
togs, swimming cap, large and small towels, soap, etc. and light rainwear.
Laundry facilities
are not provided. All items should be clearly marked with student's
name. No responsibility can be accepted for personal belongings lost
or left behind. To ensure the safe-keeping of personal belongings each
student requires two small padlocks (with two keys for each). Students may lodge pocket money in the College Bank.
We
advise parents to telephone as infrequently as possible, especially
during the first few days of the course. The use of mobile phones is restricted. Camera phones are forbidden.
Smoking is not permitted
nor may students bring Hair Straighteners or Ipods / MP3's, etc. Aerosols are forbidden and chewing gum is not allowed for hygiene purposes. Camera phones are forbidden.
Musical
instruments are welcome.
Management reserves
the right to dismiss a student whose conduct is unsatisfactory or who
refuses to comply fully with the school language policy.
