Located 15 kilometres west of Baltimore, Co. Cork.

A Summer college of Irish will be conducted in
Coláiste Chiaráin, Oileán Cléire (Cape Clear)
in 2010 for boys and girls between the ages of 11 and 18.
Three Courses will be held:

5 - 27 Meitheamh (June) 2010 = €850

29 Meitheamh (June) - 21 Iúil (July) 2010 = €850

22 Iúil (July) - 13 Lúnasa (August) 2010 = €850


A deposit of €150 is required with each application form.
Balance of fee must be paid fourteen days before the commencement of the course.

Information:
Placed as it is, the most southern inhabited land in the country, 15 kilometers (9 miles) out in the Atlantic, the island provides the ideal location for holidays and education for boys and girls, who enjoy fresh air, mild climate, open country, sea, games, and swimming away from the restrictions of modern civilization. There is a ferry service from Baltimore three times daily in both directions during the summer months.

Education:
The courses of instruction and the classes are arranged so as to benefit each student, irrespective of age or standard. Special emphasis is placed on assisting students to acquire a fluency in Irish Coláiste Chiaráin has been conducting summer Irish courses for over fortyfive years and only experienced and highly qualified teachers are employed. Cinnirí will supervise the students and take charge of games etc. Special attention is given to oral Irish. Classes are held each morning. Games, leagues, competitions, swimming, art, etc. are organised in the afternoon. A céilí is held every night.

The use of English by students while on the island is prohibited.

Facilities – Recreation:
Games facilities include football pitch, basketball and volleyball court, swingball area, safe beach for swimming. Indoor facilities include table tennis tables, unihoc, playing cards, chess, draughts etc.

Games, leagues, competitions, swimming, art etc are organised in the afternoon. A Céilí is held each night.

Students interested in table tennis should bring their own table tennis bats and balls.

Students reside in Dormitory Accommodation. Each student is provided with a single bunk bed.

Riachtanais:

Requirements:
Individual clothing requirements are left to the discretion of parents. However the following items are essential:

Bedlinen:
1 Duvet (single)
2 Duvet covers
2 fitted sheets
Pillow and 2 Pillow covers
(Sleeping Bags are not acceptable)

Clothing:
We strongly recommend:
Rainwear, comfortable walking shoes or sports shoes, tracksuits, shorts and t-shirts, swimming togs and cap, Sock bag, large and small towels, soap etc.

Hardcover copybook & biro.
High factor sun lotion.

All items should be clearly marked with students name. No responsibility can be accepted for personal belongings lost or left behind.

Sláinte - Health:
The island nurse is available should a student be taken ill. Where the College authorities deem it necessary a student will be taken to the doctor. In the case of serious illness every effort will be made to inform parents/guardians immediately.

Parents will be liable for any expense arising from a student's illness.



We advise parents to telephone as infrequently as possible, especially during the first few days of the course. The use of mobile phones is restricted. Camera phones are forbidden.

Smoking is not permitted nor may students bring Hair Straighteners or iPods/MP3 players, etc.

Musical instruments are welcome.

Chewing gum is forbidden in the house and in the College for reasons of hygiene. Aerosols are also forbidden.

Management reserves the right to dismiss a student whose conduct
is unsatisfactory or who refuses to comply fully with the
school language policy.

Full details of travel etc. will be sent to each student before the commencement of the course.

Fee per course = €850. A deposit of €150 is required with each application form.
Balance of fee must be paid fourteen days before the commencement of the course.

A premium for Personal Accident Insurance is included in the fee.
